About Us

A traditionally dressed young girl in the beautiful ancient streets of Cusco in Peru. One of the many wonderful places we travelled to.

Zocalo Alpaca was set up in 2005 by ourselves Frank and Charmaine.
We travelled across South America for 3 months in 2003 and along the way we met many wonderful people.

A typical scene of a mother and child looking after a young alpaca. Both are dressed in traditional costume.

Whilst on our travels we came across many beautiful, colourful items of clothing and handicrafts, which we sell through our other sites www.zocalo-trading.com and our ponchos at www.theponchoshop.com

This is a picture of some of the local children that live and work on the Salar de Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia. The largest salt flats in the world.

Our aim in life is to be happy and to try to bring some joy to others. To enjoy a way of life that appeals to us both. To meet people and see new places and make a living along the way.

This is a good use and a typical example of poor people living in their ponchos. The weather can get to some seriously low temperatures and a good poncho will fend of a cold biting wind.

We also want our customers to be happy and come back to us time again.
The only way anyone can achieve this is by keeping high standards and listening to what people have to say. This is important as this helps us to help you.

Lake Titicaca, at an elevation of 12,507 feet (3,812 meters) in the Andean Altiplano, is the highest large lake in the world. More than 120 miles long and 50 miles wide.It was the center of the Incan civilization and today straddles the boundary between Peru and Bolivia. There are many of these floating islands on the lake with communities of people living on them.

It is important that we don't forget the people that breed the alpacas , shear them, collect the wool and then turn it into beautiful garments and all in the harshest and wonderous of environments.

At the edge of lake titicaca the vegetation settles like a green field making the boats appear to rise out of the ground.

Travelling to these places humbles a person very quickly when you realise the vast distances and heights. Crossing some of the hardest places in the world is often a daily necessity for many of these people in order to survive.
